Vince Hahn
Managing Partner

Vince has spent his 25-year career working across the energy value chain and brings a rare combination of engineering, operations, investing, and leadership when approaching a new opportunity. He has understood throughout his career that to solve the challenges of tomorrow, it is critical to have a deep understanding of and passion for technology, policy, and economics.

Prior to joining Tristan to launch Terraform in 2020, Vince spent 7 years at The Carlyle Group, as a Managing Director, working across the energy value chain with companies pursuing structured financing solutions. As Vince was developing relationships with companies seeking investment, he developed a simple motto, “Everyone’s money spends the same, so ask yourself what else you expect to get from the relationship.” This has increased consequence at Terraform, where investing in companies isn’t solely centered on achieving a financial return, but more importantly is about guiding companies to commercial success, where their technologies and projects positively impact the climate at scale. If we don’t deliver the latter, Terraforms’s investments have not been successful.

Prior to Carlyle, Vince spent almost 14 years at R.W. Beck/SAIC leading its consulting business, which focused on independent engineering due diligence, economic consulting and forecasting, and management consulting for utilities. It was during this time that Vince developed strong leadership skills, as well as a deep expertise in evaluating technologies in power generation, alternative fuels, and infrastructure, in each case identifying risks and mitigation strategies for a path to investment and commercialization. Prior to R.W. Beck, Vince spent several years with what is now Siemens Power (formally Westinghouse Electric) in its gas turbine engineering and nuclear manufacturing divisions.

Vince earned his MS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor in 1998 and his BS in Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in 1994. He lives in the Boston area with his wife, daughter, and chocolate Labrador, and enjoys college (American) football, antique furniture, and cooking/entertaining.
